Piling Concrete

A concrete pile is a component in a pile foundation which is driven or cast into the ground to ensure that a foundation is deep enough to distribute the weight of a finished structure safely. Cast-in-situ piles — bored piles — provide a versatile alternative to driven piles.
The drilling method allows excavation in a wide variety of soil conditions, dry or waterlogged, and can also penetrate through low-capacity, soft rock formations. As no shocks or vibration are induced, the bored piling system is the most widely used in town centres and on congested sites.
Concrete of a specific mix design is placed into the pile using a concrete pump. The auger is withdrawn from the bore as the concrete fills the drilled hole behind it, leaving a concrete pile up to 35 metres deep. This demands sustained high workability, controlled set and a supply rate matched to the rig — a delayed truck can compromise an entire pile.
